I think LCD panel of your Laptop can not support zoom function(?). If you set your window size to 800 x 600, LCD makes fit screen size. This function works with.

Can you make your windows XP's screen size to 1024 X 768?
I think it will be work.

Follow me.

1. Start > Control panel > Display
2. Last tab (Setup)
3. you can see screen resolution on bottom left.
4. drag bar and make resolution is 1024x768.
5. click OK

If not work, you have to ask to Laptop company.
